Calling for a ceasefire isn't enough.

As horrors continue to unfold in Gaza, the West Bank, and now Lebanon, it is urgent for Canada to take a firm stance and adopt concrete measures to support a just and lasting peace.

The NDP was the first recognized party in Ottawa to officially call for a ceasefire.

You have joined us in calling for a ceasefire. Our pressure has worked: Ottawa is now advocating for a ceasefire.

However, we must not stop there.

We are calling on the Liberal government to take the following actions immediately:

  • Call for an immediate ceasefire and the release of all hostages.

  • Impose an arms embargo on Israel and work with partners to halt arms transfers to Hamas and other armed groups.

  • Sanction Prime Minister Netanyahu’s government and settlers involved in violence against Palestinians in the West Bank.

  • Facilitate the evacuation of Canadians, permanent residents, and their extended families from Gaza, Lebanon, and other conflict zones.

  • Ensure unhindered humanitarian access to Gaza while condemning Israel’s decision to ban the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

  • Recognize the State of Palestine in accordance with international law and advocate for a two-state solution.

  • Correct Canada’s voting record at the United Nations.

  • Support investigations by the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the International Court of Justice (ICJ) into violations of international law, including war crimes in Israel and Palestine.

  • Condemn the illegal occupation and annexation of Palestinian territories, including settlements in the West Bank.

  • Invest in peace and reconstruction to ensure a viable and secure future for all people in the region.

It is time for Canada to live up to its commitments to human rights and international justice. Together, we can demand that our government act for peace.
