We must fully implement the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action.

The massive delays and unwillingness of the current federal government to genuinely act conforming to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action is unacceptable.

Only 13 of the 94 calls to action have been completed over the previous seven years.

This is outrageous.

The NPD believes that the liberals and any federal government should never be able to choose which Indigenous rights it will defend and which it will ignore. In addition to the 94 recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, the NPD support the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. This Declaration which establishes minimum standards for the survival, dignity, and well-being of indigenous peoples, provides the framework for reconciliation. We need a government that takes bold action to respond to the UN framework and the 94 recommendation of the canadian commission.

Let's put pressure on the Liberal government :

In partnership with Indigenous peoples, a NDP government will fully implement the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action.

Right now, New Democrats are fighting to protect First Nations. NDP Indigenous Services Critic Lori Idlout, MP for Nunavut, is fighting for investment in water infrastructure in Nunavut, and has secured protection for Aboriginal gun rights, funding for Aboriginal housing, and immediate support for families struggling with rising food prices through GST rebates.

Words are not enough. It is important that actions are taken for a genuine reconciliation.
