In 2015, Justin Trudeau promised he would put an end to federal subsidies for the fossil fuel industry. He still hasn’t lifted a finger on this issue.
Meanwhile, concrete actions are being taken around the world:
- The World Bank announced they will stop investing in the fossil fuel industry starting in 2019
- AXA, the largest insurance company in the world, will stop insuring the production and transportation of oil sands
- France decided to invest 20 billion Euros in an energy transition plan that relies heavily on renewable energy
Despite Trudeau’s promises, the federal government is spending close to $1.6 billions every year on these subsidies. Imagine what we could do if we invested this money into developing renewable energy…
It’s time to put an end to these subsidies. Support our effort by signing this petition!
